A region to discover

While staying at the "Logis de Majos", you will be close to the dolmens in "Roche aux Oies" and "Aillé". You will be near burial grounds and Saint Cyr’s "pierrefite", and on the edges of the route of Saint Jacques de Compostelle that started in Tours and passed through Châtellerault to continue to Poitiers. A few minutes away from the logis, you will discover Futuroscope where you and your family can dive into on ocean of imagery and sound that will enable you to discover the marvels of the universe .

Futuroscope [website] has been the main tourist attraction in our region for almost 20 years. But it isn’t the only one : in fact, the Poitou area is one of the richest in France as far as medieval monuments go.There are churches, abbayes and castles full of legends to see.

If you like "old stones" and History, it is with great pleasure that Léopold, a specialist in national heritage and in this region’s history, offers you the best routes to take in order to uncover the historic value of this area. Upon reservation, he can also be your guide on thematic, half-day outings.

Start your touring with Poitiers, this "saintly and scholarly" city offers a heritage of Romanesque churches and exceptional historical buildings thanks to it. Rich religious and scholarly past.

In the immediate vicinity, other thematic outings await you :

The abbeys :

Saint Savin (right) has famous frescoes, dating from the 12th century and classified as part of the worldwide heritage by UNESCO. The abbey of Villesalem, a surprising mix of Romanesque art an religious architecture from the 17th century. Saint Jouin de Marnes, a true pearl of Romanesque art.

Keeps and castles :

The Touffou castle, (left) a 12th century fortress, extended in the 15th century and completed by magnificent renaissance grouping and its exceptional gardens. The castle of Dissay, (right) just 3 kilometers from our home, built in the 15th century by the famous Amboise family. Circuit of feudal dungeons (towers) and moats from the 11th and 12th centuries : Moncontour, Loudun, Mirebeau.

If you prefer to take advantage of your vacation time to get some exercise, no problem, we are at the heart of several pedestrian, cycling and equestrian circuits. The paths of «La Baillargelle" are waiting for you.

In fact, we are ready for you all year round.

In the Spring time, the flowers in the fields and in the extraordinary Pinail natural reserve area (left) , just 15 kms from our house, are lovely to see during your open air walks. Unforgettable picnics.

For nature lovers, during the Summer, you can walk around the edge of Lake St Cyr (6 kms) (right) and you can practise your sailing, and windsurfing or just go for a family swim (there is a lifeguard on duty during the summer). And if the sun gets a bit too ho, the shade of Moulière Forest awaits you just 5 kms from the house.

In Autumn, this forest becomes an explosion of colour thanks to the different types of trees that can be found there (left). The wine-growers along the "Route des vins de Haut-Poitou" (the wine route of High-Poitou, left) are waiting for you in their extraordinary cellars. At the beginning of autumn, you can choose to watch the stays bell in the meadows of Moulière Forest. A nice fire will be crackling in the chimney upon your return.
